download problem
« on: October 28, 2005, 01:57:08 PM »

I've been moving my webbie pages over to Zbox. I transfered several gifs that I made to 'my pictures' on my PC. Everything seemed to be going well transfering them to my web pages, until I tried adding a gif called 'about me'. It didn't show up like the others, so I tried again. I got a promt that said the file name was changed because it was already there. But I still couldn't see it. Then I realized there are these un-named folders(?) that must be the gif. I tried to delete them inorder to start over, but I got this message:

ERROR: Directory ../FrayedEdges/ WAS NOT deleted from system.
rmdir: `../FrayedEdges/': Directory not empty

Somehow I did something different with this picture that I didn't do with the others, and I can't figure out how to delete my mistake.

As always, imagine I know nothing about computers, LOL, it's not hard to do!

thanks for the help in advance

No problemo. When that happens it's usually because the filename contains illegal characters, usually a space. I'll get them cleared out for you here shortly.

Ok. All taken care of. As I thought there were spaces in the filenames. Ziteman kind of chokes on those.

You can fix the problem your self by going into Cpanel, Under the "Site Management Tools" section click on "Filemanager". When the filemanager comes up click the folder icon next to "public_html". Next click on the folder icon for the directory the problem files are located in. You should now be able to see the files that have spaces in the filename. Click on of of the problem filenames. Next in the top right corner of the filemanager click on "Rename File". Just rename the file to soemthing with no spaces, then click the "Save" button. That file is now fixed.

Sometimes other illegal characters in a filename even the Cpanel filemanager won't show. If that happens just email me and I'll remove or rename them.

I downloaded two pics from photoshop and caused a problem. I tried going into public>frayed>graphic to delete or change their names but not having any success. I think you'll see the two I'm talking about.

As always, thanks for the help

Well I tried to take care of it from the library PC, but I can't. Too many passwords need to be entered and I ain't goin there on a library PC. But, they aren't hurting anything, so I'll get rid of them next week when I get my PC's back online.

The files have been deleted. I'm wondering though how you were uploading the file? Somehow the actual image binary data was going in as the file name.
