Database problem - help please
« on: February 02, 2006, 02:19:55 PM »

Hi Rox,

I have been trying to use phpMyAdmin to make a backup .sql file of my database and am getting nowhere.

I have done this before (probably had to pester Bert with many questions, though, lol) and it worked fine.
Now however, every time I try, instead of it making a .sql file to save to my harddrive, it creates a file named "export.htm" which is nothing but an html page with a java script in it. Here is a post I made re this problem:

http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=362447&highlight=

There's a link to a screenshot in that post, too.

Help, PLease!

Thanks,

Col

P.S.
In case it matters, this is a database at my keangenes account, not my colliope.com account.

Hi Col, unfortunatly, php is down Berts alley not mine <g> He will be calling me tonight and I will let him know of your problem. He may be able to tell me what to relay back to you. If not, he will be here late tomorrow night and may be able to get back to you then. Sorry, for the inconvience, and I'll mail you and let you know what he says  after I speak to him.

Col's issue was solved. Phpmyadmin really isn't used for backing up your DB's. It's best to use Phpmyadmin to import a DB. There are two ways to backup your DB's. First is in Cpanel. In the "Site Management Tools" section click on "Backup". Once you are in your backup screen click on the name of the DB you would like to backup. The second way is using the associated Php scripts backup feature. Most scripts such as Phpbb or SMF have a means to backup your DB's. There should be a link to do that in your scripts Admin section.
