unzip leaving blank files
« on: May 17, 2006, 04:29:19 PM »

Unzipping a zipped font DL - tried to unzip & save to my FM - left me blank files that wouldn't let me do anything - not even delete them - finally had to delete the whole thing - fortunately that was the only thing in it - twice - both unzips left me with blank/empty files.  Opened it in my PC & then uploaded the TTF file & that went (I think)  I do still have other alternatives - but still.....

Hi ML,
The cause is most likely illegal characters in the file names. The most common culprit is a space. You can usually fix the issue however by going to the file in Cpanel's file manager (click on "File Manager" under "Site management tools".) Once you are in the Cpanel file manager, click on the folder icon next to "public_html", then click on the folder icon's of the directories until you can see the filenames in question. Then click on the filename. In the upper right corner you see an option to rename the file. Rename it without any spaces etc and you'll be good to go. It's always advisable to look at the contents of zipped fonts first. They are notorious for containing weirdness.
