No Crickets??
« on: July 07, 2006, 02:56:45 AM »

Ok and another odd thing about this area in Oregon. There's NO crickets! What's up with that? Heck in Texas there were so many crickets that were so loud they could keep you up at night. I suppose it's because we are so much farther north. But the lack of cricket song at night just seems wrong ROFL! We do hear the occasional tree frog though.

huh

NO Crickets - I'd be in heaven - but Pudd would starve!!  LOL  Crickets find their way into my house but by the time I see them usually - all that's left are legs!  Pudd snacks on them for between meal snacks.

The other morning when I got to work at about 4:30am - when I got out of my car the peepers were so loud it was amazing.  We're surrounded by corn/soybean fields and woods.  There were 4 of them attached to the sliding glass doors in the break room.  Even my boss agreed they were way louder than usual.  Since then it's been almost silent when I get to work.

Both Dude and Ellie enjoy eating crickets also. Kitty fast food I guess. The thing I don't miss up hear are Cicadas. Don't miss that alien whizzin sound at all. When I first got to Texas I was standing out front one day with Rox and her sister and her husband. All of a sudden the cicadas started up. Being a SoCal boy for thirty years I had never heard anything like that in my life. So naturally I asked "What in the heck is that sound??" And naturally they all blinked in unison and with complete deadpan faces said "What sound?" They almost had me believing it was all in my head! ROFL!

ah - we had the 17 year variety a couple of years ago - but as we are close to the beach - we didn't have them at work - or at my house either.  They were more on the western side of the county.  But we sure did a lot of stories on them!!  But we didn't have a whole lot of people even on the western side of the county who said they were much affected by them either.
