Can not send email to Hotmail addresses

Hi Folks,
We are having a problem sending emails to addresses at Hotmail. We can receive just fine but when we reply to an email from a Hotmail address it just vanishes. We get no mail delivery failure notices. They just go poof. We are working on the problem and hope to have a fix soon. Until then, folks with Hotmail addresses please post your problem or questions here in the forum OR use the forums Instant Messenger system. Or if you have an email account with Yahoo or Gmail or any other online mailing service please use those to email us so we can reply. Just include the username of your account so we know who we are talking to.

Just an addendum to this. We have checked the mail server logs and our emails are making it to Hotmail and going into their delivery queue. However most of the time it appears the email is just never delivered. So the problem is on Hotmail's end. I have contacted support at Hotmail so hopefully we will be able to nail the problem down.

Just to advise you i have the forum notify feature activated in the event you post something here.

Notifications of both your postings were received at fullycharged_xt@hotmail.com so it does appear forum notifications at least ARE being delivered.

Don't get your hopes too high.

I've been having intermittant problems with Hotmail, both with mail sent by my servers and my personal email sent through Verizon's server, for months.

I have finally recieved mail, today, in my hotmail account from ZboX. So, maybe it is working. For the time being anyhow.. rolleyes

Thanks for that FC. Forum announcements don't come from a zboxhosting.com email address. The address that shows is just a reply to address. Try viewing the full header to a forum announcement sometime.

Hi PD,
Yah I know. They've been "doing things" over at Hotmail and you know how dangerous that can be. As Rox said we have been able to get a few emails delivered since last night. But not all. C'est la vie. For folks that are thinking of getting another email account outside of Hotmail, I recommend Fastmail.fm. Their free service is just great and it just works!

Well I did receive a reply from Hotmail support. Basically they say I need to provide answers to the following:

If your e-mail complies with our service guidelines and you are still experiencing mail delivery problems that are not addressed in our FAQ, you can contact us by providing the following information and sending it to the e-mail address below:

1. What are the IP addresses of your outbound mail servers (as seen by the receiving server)?
2. Is your server a dedicated or shared server?
3. What ISP, operating system, mail transport software, and/or mailing list management software are you using?
4. How are "bounce messages" (non-delivery notices) handled by your system?
5. How frequent are your mailings? What are the volumes of these mailings?
6. What are some of the accounts on Microsoft's systems that you are attempting to send to?
7. Do your SMTP logs show any failed transactions when attempting to send to addresses at MSN, MSN Hotmail or other MSN Services? If so, please include them inline in your response.
8. Can you telnet to port 25 of mx1.hotmail.com from your mail server(s)?
9. Can you traceroute to 216.32.183.201 from your mail server(s)?
10. Please include samples of a few of the messages you are sending, with complete headers (as seen by your recipients.)
11. In what manner(s) are recipients added to your mailing list(s)?
12. Provide the URL of your web site.
13. Provide the URL of your Privacy Policy.
14. Provide the URL at which users opt-in to receive your mailings.
15. Provide the URL at which users may choose to permanently unsubscribe from your mailing list.
16. Are you currently a Return Path client? Are you Sender Score Certified?
17. Do you publish Sender Policy Framework (SPF)/Sender ID records for your IP?
18. Do you use separate IPs for your transactional vs. promotional/subscription marketing communications?
19. Are you in the Junk Mail Reporting Partner Program?
20. Do you use Smart Network Data Services?

This whole Hotmail thing started a couple of weeks ago. We have changed nothing on our end. So now we have to jump through all those hoops (and believe me, with each question I answer there will be a back and forth) in order for MSN to figure out their problem.

Grrrr!

ok here's my 20 Qs for them

1. Why do jokes at Hotmail arrive cold and stale?

2. If I close my Hotmail account will I still get spam there?

3. What is your favorite recipe for Spam and what wine goes best with it?

4. Do any real people work at Hotmail or do you use a bot for most replies?

5. What is the home address of this bot?

6. Please provide the websites, credit card info, birthdates, names and home addresses of all your employees.

7. Is Bill Gates aware of what you are doing at this very moment, or can he find out thru logs how you have completely ****ed up his dream?

8. What is your password for Telnet access?

9. Why are "privacy" policies always made public?

10. If a mime/type cries out for help in the woods, will any tech support be able to hear him?

11. If they hear him/her, will they help her/him?

12. Do you or your boss wear underwear?

13. Do you or your boss wear underwear to bed?

14. If so what color is best for a good night's sleep?

I doubt i could hate hotmail more than i already do.. but they are working on this problem also.

ROFL Timmer! The reason I'm not going to play 20 questions with them is:

1. Most of the server info they need is already contained in the smtp logs I sent them in the beginning.

2. What I use is:
A: My OS is Ubuntu 5.10
B: My email client is Thunderbird 1.0.8
C: My browser is Opera 9.0

3. After they see the answers in #2 above, our problem will most likely be directed into their support queue, which works as good as their mail delivery queue.
