Load issues on Mig this afternoon
« on: January 30, 2007, 03:05:51 PM »

First off the problem seems to be in hand. There was an errant Cpanel login process that went ballistic. The process was killed but came back a second time. As this forum is hosted on Mig, this is a good time to remind our users to bookmark this page:

http://zboxhosting.info

That is our Emergency Information Center (EIC) which is hosted on a server totally separate from Mig and Aires in a totally different datacenter. So if an issue brings Mig down such as today you can still get info about what is going on. Also another good page to bookmark is our server status page:

http://zboxhosting.info/whmcs/serverstatus.php

That is also hosted in our off datacenter server so you can see if there are any issues on our servers. The load section is the most important. Any loads you see above 5.0 will cause the server to slowdown. At one point today the load was above 17.0 which meant the server was for all intents and purposes not reachable. It wasn't down per se but a load that high would most likely mean that your connection attempts would time out due to the severe slowdown. Which in laymans terms means "Mig was down!"

Once again because we have so few issues with our servers it's time to remind everyone why that is. The reason is simple. Our servers are fully managed by a professional team of System Administrators 24/7/365. As in today, most times the Sysadmins are on the problem even before I'm aware of it. It's impossible for me to monitor the servers 24/7. I'm just one person and I have to sleep and also manage a full time job. I could manage the servers, but if something happened while I was asleep or at work there would be an extended downtime until I could fix the issue. That's unacceptable to me. And should be for our members also. You are paying us for your sites to be up as much as possible. That's the bottom line.

~;-)
