What 'ya got there??

woot.com
« on: April 10, 2007, 04:49:44 PM »

Here is a very cool site. Woot has one deal per day. And they are usually very good deals. And then from time to time they have the infamous "Wootoff". Deal after deal with the time limit being either when they sell out, or there could be a time limit, or even just one. And then  there is the infamous "Bag 'O Crap". I've never yet been able to get a "BOC" but folks tell me they are pretty cool. Paypal is also accepted. Sorry to our Webtv users but Woot.com won't work for you.

P.S. I just purchased the Logitech headphones. 10 bucks including shipping. I'll let ya'll know how they fare.

It is Jer. Heck there's a whole "woot" sub culture. There are even programs that you can download to your desktop that will notify you of the latest deals and even the wootoff. When I manage to get my much coveted "BOC" there will probably be tin foil hats included!

LOL, it's worth going just for reading the description:

<snip>One Monitor, Hold The Tuner

Hey, Mom. How’s it going? Yeah, I know it’s been a while since I called, but it’s kickball season, you know how it is. And I’ve been spending a lot of time down at the unemployment office. It’s a lot of work not working, heh! So, uh, listen, did you ever hear back from the lab?

Oh, really? Wow, that’s awful, Mom. I’m sorry. Can’t they do that on an outpatient basis now?

Six weeks in the hospital? Whoa. Man. That’s rough. I guess you’ll need to take a lot of time off your job. Hey, I’m going through my own tribulations myself right now. And, uh, that’s actually why I was calling. See, that old TV you gave me broke down, and -

I’m not looking for a handout, Mom! It’s a loan!

Just – not too much, really – just, like – a thousand dollars, a thousand-fifty, something like that.

But Mom, it’ll be money well spent! I can get ahold of a Westinghouse LVM-42W2 42” 1080p HDTV Ready LCD TV monitor really cheap right now. It’s a totally HD-ready flat-panel, with a 1920 by 1080 resolution, and it can accept 1080p signals.

No, it doesn’t include a tuner. I’d have to hook up a VCR or an HDTV tuner or something. But it’s got mondo inputs. Check this out: composite, S-video, HDMI, PC, two component video jacks, and two DVI jacks! The picture quality on that 42” screen is awesome. And that’s not just my opnion – it gets great reviews. Seriously. You might think you can’t afford to loan me the money, but I’d say you can’t afford not to. Whaddaya say, Mom?

What? Pick up your prescriptions? Uh, wow, well, you know, Walgreen’s is like twenty minutes away, and I’ve got kickball practice, and then we’re supposed to go out for karaoke…tomorrow’s looking pretty bad, too…uh, can it wait until Friday?

Mom?

Just an FYI for you WebTV users going to this site:

I'm on version 2.9.1 and when I click the URL Bertonius left, I go to a page that Redirects me to another Ecrypted site so it's a bit slow going to get there. But it's hell getting back to this forum from there using your 'back' button LoL. Don't shoot the messenger.

More Woot stuff. I went there tonight and lo and behold, the item for sale was the much coveted BOC (Bag 'O Crap). But naturally I couldn't remember my Woot login details, so by the time I managed to get that resent to me, logged back in, and guess what? The BOC was sold out!!! There ain't no justice!!

Tongue

Bert

I will live to BOC yet another day!

OK, WHAT is a woot?  LOL

Quote
Woot originated as a hacker term for root (or administrative) access to a computer. However, with the term as coincides with the gamer term, "w00t".

"w00t" was originally an trunicated expression common among players of Dungeons and Dragons tabletop role-playing game for "Wow, loot!" Thus the term passed into the net-culture where it thrived in video game communities and lost its original meaning and is used simply as a term of excitement.

"I defeated the dark sorcerer! Woot!"
