Update on Gypsy!
« on: May 02, 2007, 12:47:30 PM »

Our Gypsy girl is in labor!!  thumbsupsmileyanim  It's been a couple of hours now. She seems to be doing alright so far. I have stayed with her, rubbing her tummy, and talking to her. She doesn't want me to leave her. LOL but I had to take a tinkle break  smile
I'm so excited!

Bert is sleeping, as he has been on graveyard all this week. He said to tell him about the event when he wakes up...yeah that will happen. rofl02

I have even taken a few beers with me to the shop, ( where she is having them ) whilst I wait ...yeah I'm a nervous nana... blink

Ok I have to get back to her. Will post the results, when this is all over...Whooopee!

And I am pleased to announce that our Miss Gypsy is the proud mother of three little gray tabby kittens. So far that is. We aren't sure if she's done yet though. So we'll wait and let nature take it's course. Giving birth to the first one was apparently very tough as Gypsy literally screamed twice! Scared the bejeebers out of Rox. Fortunately I was asleep and missed that. As big as Gypsy got I kind of doubt she's done yet. But you never know. But right now mom and her three little ones are resting and nursing comfortably.

We've got kittens!!!

5!!!

Yesiree, we are the proud grandparents to five little baby kitties! They are all doing just fine and so is our Gypsymom. Gypsy got out of the box this morning to have breakfast and she was famished! We made a nice little cat bed for them all and got rid of the old tshirts and sheets she gave birth on.   Gypsy now has her girlish figure back. We can't call her "The Goodyear Cat" any longer LOL! There is an interesting side story to this. Yesterday when she was starting labor, I was petting her and talking to her and on a whim I asked her "Gypsy how many little girls are you going to have?" I then spread my fingers out in front of her and she nosed my middle finger (3). I then asked her "How many boys are you going to have?", and also spread my fingers out in front of her and she nosed my index finger (2). That would be a total of five! Now if there are 3 girls and 2 boys I'm gonna freak.

Something is wrong with Miss Gypsy! This morning I went out to the shop where her and the kittens are and she was nowhere to be found. She was not in the box with the kittens. We thought she had somehow got out of the shop and was outside calling her. But no sign of her. We went back into the shop and after Gypsy finally came out of where she was hiding. She was obviously not feeling well. She went into the house and hid under the bed. She wanted nothing to do with the kittens. Just in case she has something that is contagious, we moved her back out into the shop and moved the kittens into our spare bedroom. They are safe there behind a closed door. Upon returning home from work today there is still no change in Gypsy. She's lethargic and not  interested in anything. Very unlike her usual lively and talkative self. I fear the worst, as there is nothing we can do for her until Monday. As all the vets here in Podunk are closed until then, unless we make an emergency call. But seeing Missy had to go to the vet earlier this week, we can't afford that. Sigh. I did manage to talk to a vet on the phone and we can save the kittens. Until we can get some kitten formula on Monday we can give them a mix of half canned milk and half warm water. If we do wind up losing Gypsy at least we can hopefully save the little ones.

No D there isn't. She is not her normal self at all. No interest in eating or drinking or her babies. Sigh.

Well there does seem to be some good news for Gypsy. She seem a little more alert this morning, and she started purring when I petted her. Still not interested in eating or drinking though, but everything is right there for her when/if. Frankly I didn't think she was going to make it through the night so I'm cautiously optimistic at this point. The bad is that she will still need to get through the next 28 to 30 hours before we can get her to the Doc.

The kittens seem to be doing well. In spite of our fumbling at hand feeding them.

Wow! Gypsy is up and eating dry food! She's obviously weak and a little wobbly but I'll take it. She even let me pick her up and she loved on me like normal and purred like crazy! So that's the good news. The bad is that we still have no idea what was wrong or maybe still is wrong. One of her teats is swollen like a lump and is hard. But it doesn't seem to be hurting her. I don't know if that is due to possibly not nursing for so long or what. But it looks like we'll be able to get her to the doc first thing in the morning. Phew!

Rox is at work until six so I have to feed the babies. More updates as they become available.

This morning I was feeding the babes, while Gypsy sat in the carrier. When she seen me feeding her babies, and heard them all crying..I thought she was gonna rip open the carrier. So I finished feeding them and let her out, just to see what she would do. She jumped right in the box and began cleaning them. Then laid down and let them nurse. I was shocked!

I went ahead and got hold of the Vet and he wanted to check her out. I took her in this evening. She was running a 104 temp. He said he didn't think it was clogged milk glands, but possible a tumor. He said this because of the high temp she was running. So he gave her a couple of shots and sent anibotics home for her. Said to let  her finish with the babes, then bring her in to get her fixed, and to remove the tumor...which he is not positive, but will see when he is fixing her.

We are just happy that she feels like being a mama again.  What a weekend!!

It's great to see her back with the little ones doing all of her mom things. I was terrible at being a momma cat. Rox was a natural as she had the mothers touch. 'Bout the only thing I was good for was burping them LOL!

I'm so glad this whole thing worked out and things are back to normal. Albeit with a few more gray hairs for Rox and me.

Just an update on our little family. Momma Gypsy is doing just fine thank you. It appears the problem was a clogged milk gland. Her swollen teat has completely gone back to normal. So it doesn't look like a tumor was involved. And the little ones are doing just great. We've been letting them out of their box more and more for currently supervised play time. They can now retract their claws, there ears are open, and the wrasslin matches have started. They are all just adorable and we will have pics in the next day or two. I'm going to Roseburg tomorrow for some errands and will be able to go to Wallyworld and get what we have developed. So stay tuned for the Pourchot family cute kitten pics volume 2! ~;-)

The kittens will be a month old tomorrow. Now here's the really kind of spooky part. If you look at the previous posts below you'll see that Gypsy predicted she'd have five kittens. Three girls and two boys. Well guess what? From what we can see so far she is exactly right! We are seeing two toms and three females! But that's just a coincidence right? I mean come on. Just a fluke. Or, maybe I should have Gypsy pick our next lottery numbers?? Wow!

Ok here it is a little over two months later. Yesterday we gave away the last two kittens to the same family. So guess what? Today Gypsy went into heat again!!! OMG! I had no idea it would happen that fast. I guess that's due to our only other experience with a momma cat was Miss Happy. We didn't give away all of her kittens. We kept two. Rocky was killed but Dude was still there and she nursed him up until we decided it was time to get her fixed. I've made an appointment with the vet for this Wednesday to get that little problem out of the way. I'm just shocked that she would "turn" that quickly!

Didn't know that. She went into heat less than 24 hours after her final nursing. Gypsy is now spending the nite at the Vet's. We'll pick her up tomorrow afternoon. I suppose I can tell all of the neighborhood tom's to go home now.

Yup Gypsers is back home now. Not feelin too well right now. Vet said to keep her inside until tomorrow and then let her do what she wants to do. We'll take her back in 10 to have her stitches removed.
