Miss Kitty
« on: May 02, 2007, 01:06:51 PM »

I wanted to let ya'll know about our eldest cat, Miss Kitty

http://misrox.com/imgs3/miskitty2.jpg

We noticed she had started losing a lot of weight, and she could hardly eat, so Bert took her to the vet. Found out that her teeth are bad on her right side of her mouth. We have her on antibiotics, and have to take her back on the 8th, to have the teeth removed. Vet said it should be no problem, except for her age ( 16 ). Some older cats just can't handle the anesthesia. But we have to give her that chance, anyway. Missy has been my companion for the last 16 years, so yes, I am very worried about her.

Happy news on Gypsy, and heartfelt struggles with Our Missy.

Ok, have to get back to the labor room... smile...Rox

We took Missy to the Vet, and we thought he would have to extract some of her teeth. He did not. Instead once he had her asleep and could see better in her mouth, he found...that she had a string wrapped around the back side of her tongue! It had been there for who knows how long, and had become infected. Poor thing!   Sad He removed the string and cleaned her mouth and tongue from the infection. That has been over a week ago. She is eating somewhat, ( her mouth is still sore) but she is still VERY thin, and I'm hoping she will pick up on her eating and gain some more weight. We are keeping an eye on her.

oh my, poor miss kitty. there's a prescription food by Hills called A/D that's a high calorie food made for such instances, maybe you can find that (sold thru vets, also petsmart i hear, but need a Rx) and feed it to her for a bit. it's the consistancy of baby food and easy to eat too.

i'm sure she'll be ok, don't want her to gain it back too fast. feed her whatever she wants for a bit, maybe even kitten food for a few weeks.

Well we had to take Missy back to the Vet, today. She hasn't been improving. She is still having a very hard time eating, and mostly eating, not at all. We have tried all sorts of foods for her even baby food. She just isn't able to lap with her tongue. She lost another pound. She is now only 7 lbs.

Vet gave her a cortizone shot and sent home more antibotics. Also, trying Ensure Plus. We are having to squirt these into her mouth, with a seringe. At this point we are fighting for her life, and may have to make a hard choice, if she doesn't improve over the weekend.

We're also giving her baking soda to try and help and clean her mouth out per the doc. We basically have to force feed her via syringe the ensure and the antibiotics at this point. We ain't letting her go without a fight. Hopefully within the next couple of days we will see some improvement.

And so there was our beloved Miss Kitty. Just dancing away on the raggedy edge. Me and Rox were thinking the awful awful, and our consensus was that we would take her to be put down this afternoon. But something wonderful happened! Last night me and Rox were sitting on the couch eating 'psghetti and missy climbed up on the couch (slowly) and sat next to Rox watching her eat. So Rox put some on the couch arm and she ate it! So Rox gave her more and she ate that too! So then Rox put her plate down and Missy did quite a bit of damage to the leftovers on her plate! A short while after that, I was in the kitchen, Missy walked up to the water dish and just started drinking! Now that was really amazing as her tongue has been hurting her so bad that she couldn't drink either. Wow! Then this morning the really amazing thing happened. I was in the kitchen getting my morning coffee, Missy walked right up to the dry food feeder that we have, stuck her head in the bowl, took a big mouthful of dry food and CRUNCH, she started eating dry food!!! OMG! She is doing so much better now, at this afternoons wet food feeding she ate and ate. It was obviously hard for her but she Missy'd up, and really ate! Wonderful! She even looks better now. And has that old spring in her step to boot! So, we are holding our breath, and keeping our fingers crossed. If she really does come back from the brink she'll have a long hard road to cross. But if any cat can do it, our Missy can!

Whoo hoooo!

wink

Even though our Missy seemed about ready to pull out of it, she took a turn for the worse. She was just too weak. We leave in a little while to end her suffering. Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and good wishes during this. It's meant an awful lot to us. We know you were all pulling for her too!

((((Everyone))))

Thanks D. We know you understand how we are doing right now. You turned me on to a website which really moved me:

Missy went to sleep in Momma's arms today. Rox is adding our dedication to the site now.

Oh Bert & Rox - I'm sooo sorry to hea about Missy.  I haven't been around much lately - and the last I read she was doing better.  What a rotten thing!  She's in a better place now, but she'll always be with you too.

Thanks ML. It's been a rough week. But life goes on. And the new little lives we have in the spare room are helping us get through it. Kittens are great therapy!

Bert and Rox, I'm so sorry to hear that your little sweet Missy has died. I know how much you must miss her.  When our kitties live with us for that many years, it forms a bond that really leaves a void when they pass on.
I had a kitty that lived to be just one month shy of 20 years old.  She was born on my birthday too.  Long black hair with beautiful yellow eyes, her mama was a Himalayan.. and she survived many other dogs and cats that moved thru our lives over the years.  She was special too, and will always be in my heart and memory as will your precious Miss Kitty.   Thats a wonderful website that Donna gave you also, I hope you can find comfort there.  Bless you both for having so much love for your little furry critters.

Thank you, Suz, you do understand.  There will always be a little part of my heart missing, now that she's gone.

My heart was heavy this morning, thinking about your Miss Kitty, so i took this picture of my sweet Arf kitty.. (yes her name was 'Arf' :-) down from the wall and scanned it, to post here.. to.. well to just show you her beautiful eyes.. unfortunately, they don t show too much in the transfer, but i'm sure you know how the marble eyes look.  Like looking into another world, full of cat wisdom.  Arf was very wise, she survived many changes in my chaotic life and came thru with flying colors.. The depth of the soul of that special cat is something to treasure forever.  Arf and Short Legs.. my special doggy, now lay side by side in my garden.

Oh Suz Arf was beautiful. I took Missy's pic that makes up Rox's current avatar. Best pic I ever took of any of our furballs. Shows off her gourgeous blue eyes. Who knows. Maybe, just maybe, Arf and Missy are lounging together in the grass wherever that special place is for them, and discussing kittens, and dogs, and of course humans. Giving each other knowing nods, with the occaisional guffaw thrown in when ever the humans are discussed.
