Does Google still work for Webtv??
« on: May 17, 2007, 03:51:28 PM »

As many of you know Google has made some changes. More info on that is here:

http://www.boston.com/business/ticker/2007/05/google_search_g.html

I'm curious if those changes will interfere with Webtv users. But if so all might not be lost. There is still an "old" Google which can be found here:

http://search.aol.com/aol/webhome

Brought to you by our friends at AOL. That might work better for Webtv users.

And apparently from what we have seen in some Webtv newsgroups the new Google does NOT work for Webtv. We aren't sure if it's just some of the older Webtv updates that do not work or all of them. But at least another alternative search engine is altavista:

Google still works Bert. At least for me on the old plus. (2.8.2) It has changed tho.  Just a simple page now without the search options, like images, etc.  So I just type in 'search images'  or 'search whatever' and it takes you to the search image page, where before it was all on the front page.

This is what i got for Zbox..

http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&gbv=1&q=Zbox+webhosting&btnG=Search+Images

It was really difficult to get images for awhile at google,(a few months ago) the list of images would come up, but you had to change to code to get to the actual images.  Spade gave us the trick and that worked, but thats fixed now and its back to bringing up the images the way it used to.   So the only difference i've noticed is that they've removed the specific search options on the first page.

Thanks for the info Suz. I had received some reports that the new Google wasn't working at all for Webtv users. Maybe it's those on the latest or oldest upgrades.
