I applied the shadow effect to a graphic - but when I went to output it - it was gone. Tried with 2 other IMs - Arbor & Koyaa. With both I got the effect I wanted in "view" but once I outputted the graphic as a gif - the shadow effect was gone and I was left with the original graphic again.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi ML, Yup it doesn't work for me either in the ZboX MagickStudio. Not sure why. It could be due to the upgrade but I don't know what versions the other MS's you spoke of are running. I also noticed your post regarding the issue in the IM forum and the complete lack of a response. But that's typical of the frustation in dealing with IM problems LOL. If you know of a MagickStudio that is running the latest version, can you test it there and see if it works?

Redux is likely the most updated of the online versions - and Koyaa is the mirror of Redux - those 2 would likely be the most current. I use Arbor most - but it didn't work there either. Amish is history unless Paul does something with it - I've tried emailing him - but nothing.
The only way I could keep the shadow fx was to save it as a png - of course I can't do squat with it after that unless I take a screen shot of the it with the effect! That's pretty useless.
Guess the shadow fx at PSP is still my best option - can't figure GIMP out at all.

Tried that but every time I tried to save anything it would give me error messages or tell me I couldn't do that - so after about 3 hours of frustration - I gave up

OK - the word from the man (well Anthony) on Shadow -
Shadow is semi-transparent. It will only work if you either 'flatten' the image onto some background or you save in a format that handles semi-transparent colors.
GIF can not handle semi-transparency (only full transparency JPEG can not handle transparency AT ALL
The only common format that truely handles semi-transparency is PNG.
Save you image as PNG, or flatten it to some color or image background. (I'm guessing you can composit it to a transparent back?)
