The good news: we have managed to decipher the magic incantation that allows us to transfer domains from my account with Public Domain Registry to Bert's.

The bad news: it all has to be done by hand, one at a time.

The good news: I've already done all the domains that have expired but are renewable, and the ones that will expire in the next 30 days, so there shouldn't be anything urgent about the rest, but I figure to get them done before the weekend.

Well, except for one, which is a ".tv" domain. Bert wasn't signed up to sell that domain, because it's more expensive and few people want .tv domains, but as soon as he signs up for that one, I'll be able to transfer that one, too.

Ben Franklin, in his persona of "Poor Richard", said that "Two removals equals one fire."  And if it were any more hassle to move, people wouldn't do it; they'd hire an arsonist, instead....  It's as big a hassle to move online as it is offline....

Ok I now have the .tv domain extension enabled. And no it ain't cheap. $30.00 per year for registration/renewal.

I was wondering if you did .tv domains. What about .cc and .info? How much would those cost?

I was looking at some different domain names and some of the ones I looked at had those available.

Hi Xena,
Yup we already do .info domains. $8.94 per registration/transfer of .info's per year. We don't currently support .cc domains, but I will check into the details of those. And if anyone thinks of any other domain extensions you would like, let me know.

Although I already got my "transfer secret" my domain doesn't expire until June. Shall I just wait until April or May?

Thanks.

Doesn't matter Nelly as Paul is transferring all of the domains he has for users over to me. If you domain isn't with 750domains.com then you will need to deal with the registrar you chose.

Bert..how will this change things for my Amish sites that are gone.? I should have had time to renew my domain as stated on the site I was redirected to, but when I filled out the requested information is was for Domania, not Amish.

In my situation only wanting to pay for one host, that being zboxhosting, it is still confusing to me.

I had already closed down PDH as Paul said he was soon, so I moved things out.

But not all had been moved from Amish.

Thanks, for shedding some light on my problem.

Lila,
The problem is your domain expired. And that happened before I came on the scene. That's not a dis to Paul, but just what happened. We might be able to get your domain back after it becomes available to the general public again. But we'll just have to wait for that.

Shame on me for not taking more precaution.

It's my fault for not getting the proper information online and learning about domains and what can happen. Lots of information had I searched the subject.
The question remains as to why I lost all of my hard work when I was in the dark.  My fault and I feel alone like the other time I had to deal with this.

Thanks, Bert.

OK. I received an email this AM re: the domain sandycor.net, which expires March 4th. That I get, yet as yet I've had no response to repeated requests for my "transfer secrets" for that and my other two domains. Ah well... it's only Feb. 28th.

Now, I read above that Bert and Paul are transferring between them all the domain750 registrations Paul holds. That sounds hopeful. Does it also then mean we are no longer required to do anything but pay for them?

If that's the case, fine. If it isn't, someone needs to be delivering unto me that which I have requested and which I need to keep everything running smoothly. Ta very much.

Question on a semi-related subject: why doesn't PayPal allow me to top up my account with my Visa? Or do they, and there's something I'm missing?  As if that's possible. blink

Hi Sandy,
No yours hasn't been transferred over to me as of yet. But hang in there. As Paul said he's going to be getting these moves done by the end of this weekend.

Yeah, I know Bert. I was just really interested in whether I could or could not use Visa to put money into my PayPal and why - nothing to do with going directly to you via phone with my payments... which I will.  smile

Damn! That brings up another questioning query thingie. What can I do to synchronise my accounts? Meaning this domain expires in March and the others at around the same time as my webspace account. It would be nice to pay for everything all at the same time. So... what's the easiest way to do that... any idears?

Hi Sandy,
Ah ok. Actually what you can do is just go to your PayPal account and email your payment to zbox@zboxhosting.com and put a note in about what you are paying for. ~;-)

Yup. Our online billing system. Once I get you in there everything will be in one convenient place for your perusal.

Lila, there's a distinct difference between domain names and hosting. Your files at Amish are still safe.

The domain name registration system won't allow renewals except for a year at a time. Since you don't want your old domain name any longer, I snuck into Bert's server, and changed the configuration so that you're at dlilahl.amishhosting.com.  You had a couple of subdomains of your domain name, and they're now subdomains of your new domain name.

Sandy, PayPal doesn't allow you to *deposit* a balance with a credit/debit card, only from a bank account.

If someone has a *business* account at PayPal, they pay a fee of something like 50c plus 4% of the purchase to PayPal, regardless of the source of the funds. If you use a credit card, virtually all those fees go to the credit card company. If you pay from a PayPal balance, that's where PayPal makes their money.

But if you were to deposit money to your PayPal account with a credit card, and then send the money to someone with a *personal* PayPal account, who then withdrew the money, PayPal would incur the credit card company fees when you deposited the money, and would not make a cent when they transferred the money to that personal account.

Now, there is a way around this, if you want to go to that much trouble. You make a purchase from a merchant using a credit card, and then cancel the purchase so that the merchant refunds the charge. In that case, PayPal does NOT reverse the credit card charge, but instead leaves the refund in your PayPal account. When the merchant refunds your money, PayPal reverses the fee they charge the merchant.

And there's no way to "synchronize" your domain names. Renew the one that expires in March, and when your hosting account expires, renew it again, early.

Your two domains - SC and WV - are among those I've already transferred to Bert, Sandy.

Sorry for covering such a mishmash of questions in one post. I woke up early today and felt wonderful, but in the last hour or so, I've really gone downhill. These questions should not be stressful, but they are. My gut is in knots, and my head feels like it's going to explode. I am going to head for the bedroom, draw the drapes, unplug the phone, and try to chill out in the dark and the quiet.

Do NOT isolate yourself in a bathroom.  Better in a soft, cozy bed.  Take 4 deep breaths and feel it in your upper chest. Ask yourself 2 times..."Who am I going to have lunch with".. "Mom, as that is the only decision you have to make at this time"..that was my sons advice to me many years ago standing in front of my desk while I thought I was going nuts due to other people's needs. I felt I could not help them.  Your friend, lila

Lila, you can get into that directory now.

You can have the bathroom; I'm headed back into the bedroom.

My migraine hasn't subsided, even though it's dark now, but my stomach has stopped cramping. And it's actually happy about supper.

Blondie got some strange chicken salad at Costco that has cranberries in it. Most chicken salad seems to be pretty dry but this is very wet, and when spread on a fresh italian hoagie roll (we have a very good italian bakery just down the street) it made for a delicious supper, and not a whole lot of work for anyone. A 39-ounce tub was $10, which figures to $4.09/pound; the supermarket charges $5/pound for their chicken salad which isn't nearly as good.

But it's 23F here, and headed colder, and my feet don't. like. that. one. bit.  Forty or fifty years ago, they used to have "moc socks" that were loosely knit stockings with really thin vinyl whipstitched to the bottom. I can reach my left foot with both hands at once, but because my right hip has limited movement, I can reach my right foot only with great difficulty, and only with one hand at a time. It makes it *very* difficult to wear socks - and my feet are big, so it's hard to find oversized socks that slip on easily. Sure wish I could find some moc socks in my size, but I've been keeping my eye out for them for a decade, without any success. They'd sure be nice tonight.

Or even one of the "snug sacks" they sold about 30 years ago, that were sorta like a sleeping bag that opened in the front instead of the sides. You stepped in, and sat down, zipped it halfway up, and then there were snaps so that your arms were sorta covered. But they've disappeared from the market, too.

People always are asking me about making money online; well, here's a great opportunity. If someone wanted to go into business for themselves, there are a couple of products that anyone with decent sewing skills could make and sell online. If there were zillions of people wanting to buy the products, the big companies would be making them, but you don't need zillions of customers to have a nice business. If you sold 30 pair of moc socks and 5 snug sacks every day, you'd have to hire several full-time people to help you make enough of them to keep up with demand!

Thanks Paul...just discovered a way to beam entire directories.  Wonderful
but why do I feel sad?  It's like a piece of me has gone forever.

Think it isn't age, or that I am a woman, or I am whatever one would say....think it's the times were good and things have changed so much that I tend to make my own world more tiny. But it is still very pleasing, just in a different way.  I lost one and gained one half of one.
Many more like that and I will be like the snail crawling up the well wall gaining an inch and falling back 2....grin

Thanks, and I feel angry at you at times and also angry with our lose of you, but more than that.. happy you will be in good hands with B. Hope that is understandable.  It is to me.

Thank you.

Thanks Paul. Now go get a cold compress, lie down somewhere dark and peaceful and kill that migraine.

They still make snug sacks.. whether you can get one this late in the season I don't know.  I did a bit of googling and found both things you need:

http://www.rehabilitystores.com/store/proddetail.asp?prod=HDDR0003 (the blue thing is where you put a sock, set it on the floor and then use the straps to pull the sock on I think.. I would guess it slides off easily as well.. while the sock sticks to your leg via your leg hairs ;-)

http://www.cuddleblanket.com/catalog.php?cat_id=2&lang=en&prod_id=001 (covers the feet but is more of a blanket than a sleeping bag)

http://tinyurl.com/ynuet6 (takes you to a sears page about the snug sack)

http://tinyurl.com/ysgqr5 (takes you to an overstock.com page for sacks)

Migraines suck and blow.  Take care, Paul!
