Sad
Well something is happening. All the images I deleted yesterday and day before are back and the images I worked on today for my ng are gone.. Guess they are out in cyber space. Hopefully they will find their way back home.
Gonna stay clear of FM till the smoke clears

Yup that just means that you are now on the new server. We'll run another sync of everyones files late tonight or early tomorrow morning and that should bring everyones files back.

As a side note, people using Comcast for their broadband are having a lot of problems right now. They had their system set up to keep users from using BitTorrent, but the government told them to stop, so they switched to some other software, and now their system is really screwed up, disrupting normal browsing and email usage. People have been complaining for 4-5 days, and at this point Comcast keeps them waiting on hold for an hour or more at a time....

You can read more about it at http://systems.cs.colorado.edu/mediawiki/index.php/Broadband_Network_Management

Too bad they don't seem to be as interested in all of the zombies on their network. I wish thay at least had fixed IP #'s so I could block some of their bots. If they were not in the USA, I'ld block comcast from all of my site.

If you're on a computer, I would advise you to use OpenDNS instead of your ISP's nameservers.

http://openDNS.com

It's free, and it's anonymous. You don't have to "sign up" or anything like that at the OpenDNS site - you just make a couple of changes in your computer (or in your router), telling it to use the IPs for openDNS's nameservers.

Many ISPs are caching DNS information much longer than they're supposed to; it reduces the load on their hosts and reduces their bandwidth usage, but it sends you to the wrong address for a long time after it's changed. OpenDNS will send you to the correct IP.

I switched to Verizon from Comcast April 1st for my ISP and phone.

I was getting the connection was reset message a lot with that monopoly.

I wish they weren't the only game in town for cable TV. I'm in Ocean County, NJ. If you can tell me about another cable, not dish 'cause I can't have a satellite, company I'd be pleasured.

Nelly the best thing to do is do a google for ISP's in your area. You could be stuck with only a couple of options like we are here in Oregon, or you could have several which have better deals.

Ok I think we are done. Domains seem to be resolving nicely. If you are still getting an error hang on for about 24 hours and we'll go from there. And I am beat! Going to go and take a nap for around 12 hours LOL! Tomorrow I'm going to make a post containing the domains that are not controlled by us and need to have the nameservers changed. I will also email those folks about the move. But of course I'll bet at lease half of them haven't kept their contact info up to date. LOL!

You might want to call Verizon, and see if they can help you with your television. FiOS is available for much of New Jersey. It gives you a lot higher speed than DSL, but unless you're downloading big files, that really doesn't matter; in normal surfing, it's latency, not speed, that makes the biggest difference.

But if you have FiOS, I'm pretty sure you can get cable television on your phone lines. Something like 200+ channels for $47.99.  That sounds like a really good deal.

Call 1-800-GET-FIOS to see if it's available.

This sucks. Traceroute shows eclecticdjs.com at 208.79.239.92. Computer users can see my we pages. Proxies can see my webpages. Statcounter shows that other webtv users can see my web pages. I can't see my web pages.

Webtv used to have it's own traceroute but they took that down :-(

Nothing. Yesterday morning I got a page load maybe 1 in 10 tries but since last night, nothing. I just checked statcounter and it shows 178 views by webtv users.

Sorry Mike. There's always someone who gits bit by DNS during moves like this. Seems they have the TTL on your Webtv server set way to high.

Bert I'm having no problems getting into my FM or control panel on either my webtv or pc but I can't beam anything out because the files can't be found by the server I was trying to beam to.

Also my webstats were updated and showing for me yesterday morning but by last night all my April stats were gone but my March stats are available to me.

I realize the beaming problem is just the DNS not being updated on the server I'm beaming to but shouldn't my webstats for April had made the move over to the new server?

With webtv we have 4 servers that we change between and during any session on the lbb we can travel between atleast a couple of the servers so it could be that a couple servers have the DNS update but the other ones don't.It could be that even though I could get into my FM earlier on my lbb, the next time I'm on my lbb I may be on a different server and not be able to get into my FM.

I only stored images at Amish so only thing I haven't gotten back is images I saved Friday. I forgot and saved them there instead of elsewhere.<They can be replaced>
At PDHomes I have a site, Kennel Klub with tons of images, it seems ok.
WHEN will it be safe to go into our FM or into our pages to add stuff?

I went to the Verizon site to see if FIOS is available here. It's available in New Jersey but it's not yet in my town. I signed up to be notified when it becomes available to me.

To call Verizon about it the number is 1-888-GET-FIOS. 800 gets USA.

Nanc,
It's possible the stats files all didn't make it over in the transfer. Some of the transfers could have timed out which is why some folks are seeing stuff that is older than before the move. However tonights sync should take care of that. The old servers are now basically without any users (except for the few who's dns still hasn't switched over) so the sync should go without a hitch. You'll keep all of your existing files on the new server and you'll get the others back from the old servers.

That issue happened because we couldn't run a constant sync. So that all files would automatically be mirrored over to the new server. Reason for that was the load. The old servers overloaded way too easy and we couldn't keep a constant sync going. So you should get everything back tonight. If not, don't worry as the old servers are still there with everything on them. So we can use a different method of getting those files back.

One thing to remember about DNS folks. It "can" take up to 72 hours for a DNS change to propagate through the web. And some ISP's don't help the issue as they are slow to update their DNS cache. So by tomorrow night everyone should be on the same page so to speak.

On the other hand Capricorn is running fine. The loads are nice and low and stable. I think once this DNS stuff goes away ya'll will really like it.

Sent our page to 2 computor friends
http://pdhomes.net/stb/randr/kennelklub.html
They said they got the CAN'T FIND message.
Will have them check again tomorrow and the rest of the week. I see it on webtv.
This is a plain jane page, no domain name involved.

Yup I can see it just fine. In fact I just ran a "trace route" from my PC to pdhomes.net and I am going to the new server. Some ISP's just take more time than others to get their DNS act together.

LOL actually no it hasn't been that bad. There are only a few folks that are having the issues. For the majority of our users the server move has been painless. And I fully understand these folks frustration. Frankly it frustrates me too. Also keep in mind, I had to change the DNS on each account one at a time. So I started Saturday night and didn't finish until late Sunday night. So some folks "could" not get a good DNS until tomorrow night.

Hi Mike,
Yup 208.79.239.92 is Capricorn. So that's a good thing. Are you able to see the page yet through Webtv? You know the thing is, you being our resident power user, I changed your nameservers first. Then did the rest in alphabetical order. And you are one of the ones taking the longest. Go figure.
