Re: Server Moves--beaming problems
« Reply #125 on: April 12, 2008, 10:49:37 AM »

Bert I thought I was having problems with my secondary webhosts server not recognizing the new DNS but after doing some testing with these graphics of CB's and mine-
http://cb-9.com/white.jpg
http://nquale.com/roses/pink/1/pk3.gif
I think that there might be a problem on our end with beaming being blocked.

I tried beaming both graphics into my 1&1 account and got this generic error-
Unable to beam in the file!

Possible reasons:
Error 400 Bad URL Syntax
Error 403 Forbidden
Error 404 File Not Found
Error 500 Internal Server Error
Error 503 Gateway Timeout

so I then tried beaming both those graphics from both my webtv and my pc into my Amish account and still got that error.

As long as both my webtv and pc servers are seeing the new DNS shouldn't I be able to beam my own graphics back into my account ?

CB & I both use variations of the same beamer and I also use the same beamer at 1&1 so maybe that's the problem?

Hi Nanc,
You know I've been talking to RT about this also. Very odd. Email me the login for your file manager and I'll see what happens.

Texum the problem only seems to occur when beaming an Amish file directly into your account--any file from anywhere other then Amish is beaming in without a problem or atleast I'm not having problems with other files.

I'll work on this. It might take me a while to get this nailed down so hang in there.

I'm looking into it Velma and Sandy. Just so I can be sure it's not something on our end. I'll let you know what we find out.

After a relatively pain free day of hooking up with my pages - "relatively" meaning a few 'server not found' messages which would click in after a try or two - I cannot now raise any of them. I am currently shut out of my domains. Poop.

Bedtime methinks.

Edited to add:
Of course. As per usual, as soon as I post here complaining of a problem, said problem corrects itself. However... I can't keep counting on magic to fix things. Rogers(my ISP) insists it's nothing to with them, and after this length of time since the switch, I tend to agree with their assessment. There be sumpin' weird goin' on heah Bert and I'm bettin' it's something small and totally stupid. It always is...

Sandy,
Best thing you could do at this point is go into your command line and email me the output of:

nslookup

ping

tracert

Then both me and the sysadmins will look and see what is up.

OK Bert. But this AM, everything is running smooth and fast, and I mean everything. Just like the good old days, only better. After running through a dozen or so pages, I came in here expecting to find you had discovered whatever the problem had been. Alright, bear with me and I'll send you the info.

OK... after a brief second recon, some pages need to be loaded a couple of times - even ones that have been previously accessed, but, none of them are impossible to raise, so it appears we have an improvement - at this time. We'll see... now I'm off to do thy bidding, O great guru.

Hi Bert~
Are you working on anything that might be causing me to get popup when going to Fm?
Popups that say:
Couldn't find requested page
Too busy
Didn't respond to your request
Once I do get into FM after three or four tries, get the same when tryng to open a directory..
Going to unplug unit for awhile in hopes its a webbie problem. First time geting all these popups

Hi Texun,
No I've been working on billing all day. Those type of popups that just won't go away are usually a webtv issue. Those usually go away after a while.

It has been 4 days since you changed the DNS for danceawaysb.com and I still can't fint it so I tried to find it with phonifier.com to if I could get it via another IP and I couldn't get it that way either.

Forums like this make me sick and tired of webtv. If webtv can't find one of those little icons, instead of rendering the page without the image, it just hangs forever.

Hi Mike,
Actually DNS wasn't the issue at all. Seems the domain "park" failed to come over from the old server. That happened to quite a few. Little complicated trying to follow the path of the parked domain and figuring out where it's failing. Yours is fixed now though. Also on your main danceaswysb page you have two broken images:

http://danceawaysb.com/images/bongos.gif
http://danceawaysb.com/images/dabanner.gif

Url's for those should be:

http://eclecticdjs.com/danceawaysb/images/dabanner.gif
http://eclecticdjs.com/danceawaysb/images/bongos.gif

Thanks for that info but that shouldn't be happening. The domain danceawaysb.com is supposed to point to the danceawaysb/ directory. I fixed it for the pages under danceawaysb.com by simply changing it to a relitive path instead of an absolute URL but I use the banner and some other images elsewhere. That must also mean that my other URLs are not working...

... Yep, http://danceawaysb.com/schedule.php is not being directed to  http://eclecticdjs.com/danceawaysb/schedule.php like it should be. I noticed that the same thing is happening to my friends pdhomes account dancingfromtheheart.org.

I have this on my .htaccess file

Code:
RewriteEngine on

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^danceawaysb.com$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.danceawaysb.com$
RewriteRule ^/?$ http://eclecticdjs.com/danceawaysb [R=301,L]

Shouldn't that be redirecting the URL's?

Today navigating my FM and taking a crack at editing some pages has resulted in an orgy of "server not found - try again" popups. Some correcting on the first attempt, others taking a teeth-grindingly long time to connect. I'm not trying to be a pain, Bert, but this has so far not been a happy move for me and I'm sure there are people out there we haven't heard from yet - OK - maybe you have...  huh

Hi Sandy,
I feel your pain. But in order for me to fix something I have to find something wrong. And I can't. This is how it looks from my end:

Code:
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

It depends on what you are trying to do Mike. Do you want danceawaysb to act as a sole independent domain?

Sandy,
Try bypassing your router and plugging your modem directly into your PC. If you can then access the sites with no issues, then try hooking it back up. If you then experience problems then bob's your uncle that it's your router. You might need to reset your router or do a firmware update. If none of that works turn off your PC firewall if you have one installed. Then see if you have problems.

Bert, we seem to be out of synch in our postings here. I'll play with the router etc. later, meanwhile...

Some time passes... and with a little effort, we get something.

Router? Dunno, but I'll find out. Since the rest of my surfing experience is webland wonderful, how can it be my router? Oh well, your wish is but my command O Sysadmin of Sysadmins. I have a smiley that would have looked great there, but I can't get to it...  Sad
