The orthopedist took the cast off and because his mother is paying out of pocket they knocked $20 off the x-rays making it $33 and if she continues to pay the bill off they'll forgive the last $300. Doctors like it when you can pay out of pocket. That way they don't have to tangle with insurance companies and often cut you a break for going the self-pay route.
Nice desktop, Nelly!
It's great that that she was given a discount on the medical.
In some countries, you can go to the doctor, for surgery, or whatever...and it is ALL paid for, by the government. It just astounds me, living in one of the richest countries in the world, how we, on the other hand, have folks that cannot afford insurance, or even the cost of an office visit. We have folks that just CANNOT get medical attention.
One of my co-workers was in an awful ATV accident. Shattered her jaws, and the hospital actually turned her away, for lack of insurance. She was forced to be driven a couple hundred miles further to get some much needed help. It was with the help of friends and family that she got her surgery to repair her jaws.
Something, seems very wrong, with this situation...don't ya think??

Rox That seems weird. I thought that emergency rooms were required to treat you regardless of your ability to pay? I know from experience that they will do little or nothing for certain conditions but a shattered jaw would definately qualify as an emergency.
Almost 2 years ago I had appendicitis and even though I have no insurance and can't afford to pay they treated me anyways. After they finally decided I did have it they did send me to another nearby hospital because they said that they didn't have a surgeon there to do it. I suspect that there would have been a surgeon available if I had insurance. They booted me out of the hospital barely even 12 hours after my surgery even though I could barely get out of bed by myself. All of the bills added up to about $25,000.
