Downgrading Apache on Capricorn
« on: May 23, 2008, 05:16:59 PM »

In my haste to provide everyone at DAP the latest and greatest in our server software, I forgot one key element. Webtv. Webtv doesn't work well with the latest and greatest of anything LOL! Capricorn now is using Apache 2.0.63 while at ZboX we use Apache 1.3.37. And that is the reason I believe that Webtv users have been having nagging problems on Capricorn. There are fundamental differences between Apache 1 and Apache 2. So, I am going to be rolling back to Apache 1 on Capricorn. That requires Apache to be recompiled which will increase the servers load a bit and might cause some slowdown. I am starting this process now and I will announce when it's complete.

And of course during the recompile Apache has failed. So you can't access anything at this point. And no I can't restart Apache whilst it's rebuilding. Hang in there it should be over soon.

Well that's what this business is all about. If we aren't "perfect" (or a reasonable facsimile there of) we lose members. We lose members I don't get paid. I don't get paid, I can't make the payments on this 14 million dollar riverfront house of ours. And if ya believe that, I have a bridge for sale in Brooklyn you might be interested in.

Sorry about the Apache hiccup. It wasn't supposed to die like that, so of course me in my infinite wisdom went ahead and did it. And on a Friday night during prime time. Yah, that was dumb. But did I say Apache wasn't supposed to die like that???

When I type in my domain name. www.aquariusmoon.info,  I am getting a green CPanel/Apache page. I just set up my domain management on Cpanel, but still I'm not getting my old front page (the domain was purchased for, and previously directed to- my d21c.com/aquariusmoon/ account), nor am I getting anything else either...I can go to my domania, but stilll...help!

Topy, that problem was a result of Apache starting and stopping during the "downgrade" to Apache last night. I'm not seeing that error any longer for the filemanager. Let me know if you still do.

The problem with the domain redirects is my fault. I set Domania up in it's own little section on Capricorn and gave all of the Domania accounts their own IP number. I believe I now have a fix for this issue and I should be able to get those redirects up and running today.
