Is old Domania forum dead?
« on: May 27, 2008, 07:59:07 PM »

Hi Bert,
I just came from Domania's old forum and wanted to post Re: Site Showcase, but every time I click "log in", I can't stay logged in. Is that forum no longer functioning? If so, I can still do Site Showcase listings from my site.

Oh, BTW if anyone has sent SSC info to me within the past 30 to 45 days, please resubmit. We had a death in the family, so things have been pretty unsettled the past month. Thanks!   coolsmiley03

Hi Sugar,
I'll check and see what is going with the old forum a little later. It should be functioning fine, but then, I should be 22 (with a 53 yr old brain)!

Yah I'm having problems too. Seems I need to login again for each action I take. Sigh. I suppose I could reinstall Drupal but then I'm not sure if any new versions would be compatible with the old database.

Does it make any sense to have a url on the Domania forum with a link to here?

Well franky Slan, there is one, although it's getting a little buried. We were wanting to keep it for the Site Showcase. But if the whole thing is borked, why not just use a redirect for folks that go to the other forum are automagically redirected here? ~;-)

Sugar, you up to starting the Site Showcase from scratch?

Ok I think I know what the problem is with the old "forum". We are running Mysql 5 here on Cap for the database software. The old server was running Mysql 4. Seems there are some imcompatibilities between the two versions. Very much like Apache 1 and Apache 2. And it's not an easy downgrade as we'd have to recompile Apache yet again after the downgrade. And I learned my lesson about doing that during Prime Time las Friday LOL. So, we'll wait a couple of days and then I'll do the downgrade during the wee hours, and I will announce when I will do it. Just so that if Apache goes offline again it won't impact that many folks.

Wouldn't that make more sense than downgrading everything from the new server? After all, if you had wanted the new one to be as dysfunctional as the old, you could have saved yourself the work - and the headaches - involved in the move and left everything where it was.

Maybe it's best, as long as the webbies are being served, to keep going forward rather than back.

Jus' sayin'...

I hear ya Sandy. Frankly I think it would be easier to upgrade the old Domania Forum. I think I'll check into that first.

I like this forum.  For my part, you could just change the link. shoot

Actually the idea did occur to me last night as I tried -- for the last time -- to log into the old forum. What could be done is to leave what's on the Site Showcase blog there (read-only), then I could list and link new entries from my own site. Makes more sense that way and the new entries won't take up too much space anyway. BTW I'm in process of revamping SSC info page to reflect the changes.
