Webtv newsgroups gone? (and pc question)

Last night I was getting some errors when trying to visit newsgroups. Now this morning I clicked on two active club groups, an active regular group, and the Webtv.users group and got a pop-up that none of them exist.

What is going on? I read those newsgroups every day.

Before the groups disappeared I was going to ask this.

I very recently got a computer. If it says on it dvd/cd-rw combo does that mean I can only use cd-rw and dvd-rw doesn't work? How would I know what kind I would need? How much do these disks usually hold? At this point I mostly want them to back up my web sites (over 2 gigs worth of files) and to get my pics off of my digital camera so I can take more pics without buying a second memory card.

I also tried a regular alt newsgroup and a sci and soc one and it says they don't exist either. If I click on discuss on the home page I get a technical error pop-up.

Haven't heard anything about the ng's going poof. Could be a maintenance thing they are doing. If anyone else has any news please let us know.

The DVD/CD-RW combo drive means it can only play DVD's but can burn and play CD-R and CD-RW disks. And will play regular CD music disks, and possibly some other format disks also. CD-R disks can be burnt once only but read as many times as you like. CD-RW disks can be written on over and over again and you can even overwrite the data that is already contained on them. The caveat to CD-RW disks is that burning your mp3's on them will only work as a backup source as they won't play on cd music players like in your car etc. Secondly you can't use a CD-RW as a "rescue" disk for your PC as they are not bootable. I believe CD-R and CD-RW will allow up to 750 megs of data to be put on them.

I plugged my digital camera in to my laptop today and it was so easy to do. It installed the drivers within a few minutes and I only had to click once and not long after all 100 pics on my memory card were on the computer. I can't wait to burn them or put them in my web space for backups and then I'll be able to delete the pics on my memory card and start all over again.

I don't know how I could manage without a computer now even though I only used it for the first time yesterday. I like to play video games too and I can't wait to get computer games. I saw the first sims with all the expansion packs for $40 at Walmart. I want that.

The Webtv groups are back up now.

Xena wed morning between 12:00am and 4:00am is the weekly maintenance time for msntv and occasionally maintenance runs over that time period.If there is some major maintenance done then they've been known to start earlier then 12 and run into late morning.Because the message "this group doesn't exist" came up when trying to get into a group more then likely the maintenance they were doing this morning was on the ng server.
