Bert,
My midis won't play on any of my pages but, they do play in my midi directory. Is anyone else having this problem on Domania? My midis are all zipped,is that the problem?  Thanks, Bob :-)

Hi Bob,
Are your midi's zipped using the .zip extension or the .gz extension?

Hi Bob,
All .gz midi's should be working fine. Are you getting any errors?

Bert,
For what it's worth, I noticed several weeks ago that the gzipped MIDI's I have embedded on a few PDHomes pages will no longer autostart. I copied one page:

http://pdhomes.net/erotica/frebrd/snd/rag_bin.html

but embedded the same gzipped MIDI hosted on another server, and it autostarts:

http://pdhomes.net/erotica/frebrd/snd/rag_bin1.html

p.s. Forgot to say that the gzip does play in the File Manager or when I click on the "Maple Leaf" link on the page.

I'm not getting any errors. They midis play on my sigs but, not on any Html pages. I tried Reloading and that didn't help either. I'll send a page to myself and see if the midi will play.

Ok I think I know what is going on. A couple of weeks ago Cpanel upgraded to Cpanel 11.23.3-R25946. During that process somehow we were upgraded to Apache 2 again. Frankly I'm not sure why that happened, but I'm currently in the process of doing an analysis of why it did, so we can prevent that in the future. Apache 1 currently is no where near end of life so the Cpanel upgrade shouldn't have changed Apache. Webtv has issues with Apache 2 and the playing of .gz music files. Most likely that is not supported in Apache 2, or Webtv is not supporting that function in Apache 2. Frankly Webtv is probably not supporting Apache 2 at all most likely. And be forwarned  that as time progresses and more and more server upgrades are brought in, it's most likely that Webtv will not support those either. No part of the Webtv browser has been upgraded in years literally. And it will most likely never be. MSN has put all their chips behind MSNTV2 and we all know how well that is going. Food for thought there.

I'm going to talk with the sysadmins, and most likely we will downgrade back to Apache 1 again. Last time we did this it caused an issue that caused Apache to fail and the server was unreachable for around 20 minutes as the Apache recompile took place (once a recompile is going on we can't restart Apache until after it ends, hence the downtime). So, with that I'll announce 24 hours in advance when we will do that downgrade. It will be in the wee hours to alleviate the issues we had with doing it last time during prime time on a Friday night. There was a lesson learned there LOL!

I will announce the downgrade in the DAP Announcements forum section when we will proceed.

Hi Guys,
One thing has been brought to my attention in this thread. If something is not working for you let me know. Me and Rox are rarely on Webtv these days. In fact we are on it so little that we are going to drop it altogether very soon. It's not something that we will need seeing that we have all of you Webtv users that push that little black box to it's limits. We now have a very high speed broadband option in our neighborhood and we would like to utilize that to provide one more layer of backups for our users that need it. The loss of Webtv will pay for that, and frankly I think that is in the best interest of all of our users. Folks going without certain services for weeks at a time is unacceptable to us. But we can't fix it if we don't know about it.

Actually the sysadmins recommended that we just do the recompile now. I tut tutted but they said that actually Apaches failure last time was a fluke. So, they were right and we are now back on Apache 1.3.

The .gz issue should be fixed now. Please let me know if it isn't.
