"You say you want a revolution... well, ya know.."

Erasing posts? 'Cuz today a conversation I was having with ladeebird completely disappeared from both the board and the archive. I'm positive it was here in the "Problems" section. Also, it's not the first time it's happened to posts of mine - it happened in June too - but it was this second disappearance which led me to understand I wasn't crazy, something was up. I find it impossible to believe you would arbitrarily delete socially inoffensive posts along with the thread they came in, so... what do you think is happening here?

Hi Sandy, No I'm not deleting them. Ladeebird is for some reason. I have left the option for users to delete their posts, however it's starting to look like I should turn that feature off??
Bert
I just noticed I have that ability with this thread Bert. Great detective, eh? If someone wants to erase a topic they began, I guess I can live with it if I have to, but it will make me think twice about how much trouble I'll be willing to take to help out in future.
The first time it happened was back in early June and as I recall, it was something time consuming that might have helped others as well had it been left up. Oh well...
See? I knew it couldn't have been you. You have just never struck me as the censorial type.
If someone wants to delete their posts fine, but sometimes a thread takes on a life of its own beyond the narrow scope the originator intended, and I don't think it would be a good thing if he/she was able to just blow all that input and discussion away at some future date for whatever reason. Maybe the power to delete entire topics should be at the discretion of the moderator only.
ETA:
And it's just happened again. Now I'm angry 'cuz I went to a lot of trouble with that particular one. People. The help isn't only meant for the person who starts the thread. The reason people will go to above and beyond type lengths to help you is so the information will be there for others who too might one day need it.

Ok I have removed the option for folks to delete an entire thread. That was a mistake on my part when I initially created this forum nearly five years ago. Frankly I didn't really worry about it as it has never ever been an issue before. Silly me. Sandy you have my apologies. I know and feel your pain. Hell, when you wind up writing a "book" in a thread to help someone out and the whole thing vanishes, well I'd be upset too.
So, everyone can still delete their own posts. Please use that option wisely as it can make a thread make no sense. That option is ONLY there in case you type first before thinking and think better of it afterwards. Frankly in that case the best option would be to modify your post. Back in the day when we first started this forum we had a problem with Spammers on the old Phpbb forum. I switched to our current SMS forum and slowly found a way to weed out the spammers. In the entire five years this forum has been online I've only had to delete two posts by users. Those were inappropriate and I emailed the members about what I did and why. So if there is a post or topic that offends you please let me know. Just hit the "Report Post To Moderator" link.
We had a webtv newsgroup back in the day when we first started. It died. When folks needed something, it took 20 minutes for the post to show up, and after 1500 posts were made after your post it dropped off the board. That doesn't happen here obviously. Here is what I believe is my first post. I made several test posts before that as we went online on July 27th, but I did delete those:

Frankly this forum is the best place to come first for support for a problem. The forum emails me whenever a new post is made and I can get here quick if need be. If it's just a simple thing we have several ZboX/DAP veterans who might be able to help you out even before I can get here. Got a question about Html? Post it! Have something you want to do in the ZboX/DAP filemanager but don't know how to do it? Post it! Think your newest goldfish you just bought at Wal-Mart is the bees knees, heck, post it in the pet forum! That's what this place is here for kids.
Yah I know. Another "book". Imagine that!
~;-P

Don't take away our ability to delete posts! Sometimes we may answer a question with a link to a temporary web page or we may realize that we made a major error or the info may become outdated.

Sandy - I am sorry I have made you so angry. I thought the question was answered and just deleted the topic because it was finished. I also have had a lot of trouble with my puter and it finally crashed so the e-mail addy is gone. I re-opened on web-tv so I could at least be online until such tme as I can replace my desktop with a new one. I have changed the e-mail addy, here, for webtv also. I didn't read all your messages through, to Bert because I was so upset about your feelings. Again, I am very sorry and won't post again. JoAnn
